Cranleigh v Reigate Result 33-7. 5/4/25

Men’s

Referee R. Blandford

Great day for the club. This was the last league game of the season for the first fifteen. The afternoon was preceded by a Club Lunch for a record attendance of 85, and we were treated to an excellent menueIt was good to see past players and supporters who we had not seen for a long time, and every section of the club was present. It was followed by the first team’s best home performance, which looked far better than the league table finally shows. The team selection looked as near as the best that could be put onto the field. From the start, Cranleigh attacked Reigate and looked alert and focused, unlike some previous games. The reward was an excellent move and try after 8 minutes by Ollie Middleton in the corner. Reigate attempted to get some foothold in the game for the next twenty minutes, but the Cranleigh back row canceled any moves and kept Reigate in their half. Pierre Goodwin jumped on a Reigate mistake and put in Phil Dandy, who was too quick for the Reigate defense.Converted.Some good handling followed this, and the pace of Max Bracewell was too much for Reigate to score again converted. Half Time 19-0Cranleigh did not let up in the second half. Scrums were solid, lineouts were clean, with Luke Feildings throwing in nearly 100%. The backs were playing their best game of the season, and Max Bracewell stormed through a gap to run 70 yards to score, with Will Overton converting halfway..The Cranleigh back row opened several chances, and one allowed Max Bracewell again to storm through a gap and score out wide for his third try, again converted 33-0 Eventually, with five minutes to go, Reigate set up a rolling maul on the Cranleigh line and scored under the posts 33-7. This was an excellent game, with the whole team contributing to a terrific win. Max Chrusciel at scrum half was buzzing all game; Max Bracewell is now fit and showed what we have been missing in the center. The forwards should be proud of themselves for not letting Reigate into the game, and as mentioned, the back row, two of which have been playing center most of the season, were excellent in their accustomed positions.
