Celebrating Nigel Spong

Tomorrow we celebrate the years of hard work and dedication that Nigel Spong gave to our great club. As a player, referee, committee member, chairman and president – Nigel’s service to the club spanned almost 50 years. The first team pitch will be renamed the Nigel Spong Memorial Ground in honour of that service. 

As you may know, the club was founded in 1967 and Nigel joined a couple of seasons after that, throwing himself into the club, wholeheartedly. He first became chairman in 1984 and in three stints in the role he oversaw 23 seasons. In those years he helped create the foundations of the club we all continue to build together, today. 

Nigel’s wife, Jackie and their children and grandchildren – will be at the club from 12pm on Saturday to raise a glass to his memory.

Bar opens at 12. Lunch is at 1pm and kick off at 3pm.
