News Seniors Cranleigh RFC vs Effingham and Leatherhead RFC
10/09/23
Seniors
Cranleigh fielded a squad of 24 players that included 6 colts. With last week’s trial game being canceled it was a welcome outing for all the players.
However, it was not intended that they would have to play in 30-degree temperatures.
It was decided to play three thirty-minute periods with water breaks in between. A good crowd was entertained with a high tempo and effort from both sides.
It has been a long time since we have seen a Cranleigh squad looking fit and enthused, which must have been due to hard work at training and the drive from the coaching team and leadership group..
The tempo did not drop in all three sessions and Effingham to their credit fought throughout. Cranleigh showed great determination and pace, scoring at regular intervals throughout. Tries by Hugo Mcallister, who looked as if he had put on 60 mph of pace from last season and a superb individual try by Phil Dandy were the picks of the day.
The pack has gained knowledge over the close season of how to steal the ball at the rucks and collectively looked very efficient. Lineouts were also good.
A good day for everyone, and great to see a Cranleigh side in good spirits and enjoying the game.
The first league game is next week at Wildwood Lane v Staines
