Cranleigh RFC Welcomes Simon Shaw back to Wildwood Lane

Sunday 18^th April saw the return of former Cranleigh (oh and Bristol, Wasps, Toulon, Barbarians, England and British Lions) great Simon Shaw – back to Wildwood Lane. 

Simon was joined by his former Wasps, second row partner Richard Birkett (himself a winner of four Premiership titles – not to mention both the Amlin and European Cups). They  were representing Simon Shaw Rugby, their commercial, grass roots rugby venture. The aim of the business is to join up their network of commercial rugby partners with grass roots clubs, to help improve the overall health of the game, at junior clubs throughout the country.

As well as Richard laying on a coaching session for the U15’s & U16’s, Simon had the chance to meet up with a few old team mates on the pitch they played on together (a few) years ago. He also faced a Q&A from a very well researched group of Under 10’s!

Richard provided some top-level advice to our fantastic Youth sections’ players and coaches and of course, it was great to see Simon back at the club. Once a Crane – always a Crane!
