Anyone turning up 20 minutes into the first half seeing Cranleigh 5-20 down would not of thought the final result would be easily in the favour of Cranleigh .
During those 20 minutes Haslemere scored four tries -two of which from a left wing flyer who out paced Cranleigh easily under the posts .Some loose tackling helped ,but credit to the their number 11 he looked unstoppable. Cranleigh eventually go to grips up front and put together some decent moves and after one Charlie Parkhust drove to the line after the ball going through four set of hands.
This was followed up by Liam. Kennedy in a chararistic charge added another try.The mood was upbeat and after an excellent assist by Josh Barraud put Mikey Rosser in out wide . Unfortunately the penalty count eventually told on Cranleigh and Haselmere scored an easy try plus a penalty to leave the score at half tome 15-23 .
Thank goodness Cranleigh started the second half better than the first. After 15 minutes Max Bracewell weaved his way from the half way line to score half way out , an excellent try which seemed to deflate Haselmere. Charlie Parkhust added another after 20 minutes from a 5 meter scrum and Cranleigh were in command . Scrummages and Lineouts (with a Strong wind) were in Cranleighs favour and another good weaving move saw Phil Dandy score .
Unfortunately Harry Crabtree had an off day in only converting one try perhaps over compensating for the wind but this did not take away a splendid performance ,especially after being 5-20 down .
Several substitute changes were crucial to the overall result . The young guys got a lesson from the evergreen Chirstian Morris ( Mosser ) ,when he came on how to tackle . One especially when he tackled the Haselmere large fly half 5 yards back just as his fingers were just about to receive a pass . There were several notable perfomances but Charlie Parkhurst was immense. Max Bracewell showed his class and rugby brain and the pack should have special mention in dragging back what looked like at first a hammering.
So on to the next round in one or two weeks’ time.
